St Laurence Church
St Laurence Church sits in the heart of Downton, a parish about six miles south of Salisbury. It’s a long-standing landmark in the village, valued as a quiet, open space for prayer, reflection, or simply taking in the building’s history, and open to anyone regardless of circumstance.
The church building is open daily during daylight hours for private prayer or for visitors wanting to look around. A room at the back hosts Sunday School for school-aged children during term time.
A varied programme of services runs through the week, ranging from traditional and quiet services to more relaxed café-style gatherings and all-age worship. Morning worship takes place every Sunday and lasts around an hour, supported by a choir, organ, and a team of bell ringers.
The church also hosts a number of annual events, including a jazz concert in the churchyard, a Goose Fair around Michaelmas, and concerts from the Downton Band. It follows the Church of England’s safeguarding policy, Promoting a Safer Church, with named contacts available for both general enquiries and safeguarding concerns.
