Stable & Wick Bakery and Farm Shop
Stable & Wick Bakery & Farm Shop is a cosy micro bakery and farm shop nestled in the village of Downton, Wiltshire, just south of Salisbury near the New Forest.
It all kicked off in 2020 during the pandemic, when mother-daughter duo Emma Parry and Louisa Pinkham started baking bread and brownies from their kitchen table to serve the local community with fresh, home-made goods.
The demand grew quickly, leading them to team up with local farmer Will Dickson. By October that year, they had converted a rundown barn at Wick Farm into their bakery and shop. They marked four years in business in January 2025, and it has become a real community hub known for its breads, bakes, and more.
The place has a rustic charm, with long tables for chatting over hot drinks, plus indoor and outdoor seating for takeaway or enjoying on-site.
They employ eight staff and open six days a week, from Monday to Saturday, starting at half past eight in the morning until four in the afternoon.
It has evolved into a full farm shop too, stocking beef and lamb direct from Wick Farm, seasonal fruit and veg from nearby suppliers, flour from Shipton Mill in Gloucestershire, cheese from places like Lyburn Farm, milk from Nunton Dairy through a vending machine, rapeseed oil from Fussell Farms with refill options, and items from Blueberry Den, a zero-waste shop in Salisbury.
Favourites among customers include Scotch eggs on Fridays and Saturdays, cinnamon buns, and sausage rolls.
The community’s support has been key to their success, especially during the pandemic when it served as a vital spot for local food and a connection to its origins. They focus on sourcing locally, using the cafe and bakery to draw in visitors who then discover more regional produce. It is part of the Wiltshire Marque scheme, which promotes local makers.
Stable & Wick Bakery and Farm Shop seems to be a real hit with locals and visitors alike, based on what’s out there. People rave about the home-made sourdough bread, focaccia, and coffee, calling it the best around. The baked goods get special mentions for being outstanding, with everything from cinnamon swirls to loaves sounding top-notch.
On Facebook, it has a perfect recommendation rate from a handful of reviews, with folk loving the quality produce and friendly vibe. No major gripes popping up; it’s all positive on the freshness, local sourcing, and overall charm. If you’re after a cosy spot for treats and essentials, this place comes highly recommended.
